Our second week is COMPLETED and Saturday AM’s MARCH ART MADNESS 2019 is hitting its’ stride!
AMAZING ARTISTS.
AWESOME FAN ART.
And UNIQUE VISIONS brought on by our ever changing themes.
This weekend’s voting began with the reveal that an artist was unable to get their work in on time and thus was replaced last minute by Canada’s @Nathq_adt. And given such short notice – it was still a fantastic piece that offered one of the most original takes on TEAM SAIGAMI’s MEME theme.
The THEMES were as diverse as the artists this round. ANIME. SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS. MYTHOLOGICAL GODS & MONSTERS. And MEMES.
There were some truly interesting takes on these themes. This ROUND of 32 meant only SIXTEEN could proceed to the next round but here are some of a few of the most eye-catching fan-art illustrations.
Solid art with imaginative concepts – it was difficult to choose a winner, indeed. This round really came down to specific choices and minor point loss and/or gains.
For example:
the SCOOBY DOO intended piece by @pondo.kuma veered too closely to the theme of MEME instead of just the SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON. This was a point loss which was joined by another 10pt deduction for late submission.
@ROSASSTUDIOS Wolverine V X-men was a pretty nostalgic piece for any 90’s SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON FAN BUT it was mislabeled and cost the artist 5 points. Unfortunately, the public vote was extremely strong for his opponent.
@ADRISCRIBBLES JUST EDGED her opponent thanks to once again providing detailed art.
@YERULSHALMI.ART has AMAZING COLOR WORK WITH TRADITIONAL TOOLS but it wasn’t enough to overcome his competition by the Judges who went with @J_T_LUCAS 4 votes to 1 (30 extra points!!!)
Our lone India illustrator – @99VIOLENCE was more competitive with staff for his haunting HINDU MYTHOLOGY ILLUSTRATION but the distance of the image and the repetitive nature of the COLOSSAL MYTHOLOGICAL character seemed to be the sticking point for a few of our judges. This was personally one of Frederick’s favorite pieces.
Canada’s @NATHQ_ART is a fan favorite of the creators and staff members here at Saturday AM and we were so HAPPY and HONORED when he stepped in to take over for an artist who backed out after ROUND 1. HIS PIECE WAS INCREDIBLY INTERESTING with a meme generator being literally represented as a film set. Unfortunately, the star power of PEWDIEPIE and it’s own unique view of memes in culture by South Africa’s @MOKEMONK seemed to strike MORE of a CHORD with BOTH public votes and those from our staff.
Iraq’s @BEZHANRTIST turned into another cool piece (featuring ZEUS in a RAIN STORM) and this time as it was revealed on our LIVE REVIEW SHOW that he PRODUCED IT ALL ON HIS SMARTPHONE – with just his hand!!! Major props and it seemed a number of viewers agreed as his public votes increased after the show.
Unfortunately, there was an artist who copied another artists’ work and while we had initially supported their work – the act caused the judges to withdraw their votes and support and their was a 30 pts deduction added to another 10pt deduction and this was just enough to swing the effort to the opponent.
