NOT READY FOR FLIGHT? TRY an EDITOR’S CHALLENGE!

As many of you know, we’ve announced our newest TEST FLIGHT V.1  for 2016 and it’s been a HUGE HIT!

Many new, diverse and talented artists and writers are working up fresh new content to be one of the next new PILOT Manga to get a run out in the pages of our popular digital shonen anthologies, Saturday AM and our sister publication, Saturday PLUS!

Our SUBMISSION processes for new creators are unique in that they are not focused on anything goes procedures like many webcomic sites. Instead, we focus on comprehensive and FUN contests called TEST FLIGHTS and TEST RUNS which seek to not only offer in-depth critique but a dynamic environment where creators compete with each other (not unlike our capitalist system of entertainment). It’s not easy and many of our BEST CREATORS have emerged from this process like LEONARDO MASSIP of ISLANDERSFREDERICK WARD of COMET MAN, WILLIAM BRODIE of NO To HEAVEN and CHRISTOPHER KRADY of MONSTER SOCIETY OF AMERICA!

That said, we know many folks are still trying to work up the edge to participate in what is and can be a very challenging and stressful experience. We wanted to help ease creators into this process while likewise, finding a way to specifically target WRITERS as well as ARTISTS. That’s why we’re pleased to announce:

EDITOR’S CHALLENGES!

These are going to be MONTHLY single focus contests that seek to allow our PILOT Manga members to test out ideas, flex some creative muscles in a more simplified effort. Our EDITORS will be managing this process ENTIRELY and as a result will be able to assist with targeted critiques and discussions.

This first EDITOR CHALLENGE IS ALL ABOUT WRITERS.

RULES

JANUARY 2016 EDITOR’S CHOICE CHALLENGE FOR WRITERS

Winter can be rough, can’t it? There’s shoveling driveways, slipping on ice, even just walking down the block can feel like an arctic expedition if you live far enough north. Or you might draw the particularly unlucky lot and end up like the guy who parked too close to Lake Erie and his car became encased in ice inches thick.

How would you react if this happened to you? What would you do? Interesting questions, but a little too boring for what I’m wanting you to do. Let’s add a twist; you have to get into this car. You need to get into this car NOW! But why? Are there nuclear launch codes on the passenger seat? An alien body in the trunk? Forget to turn the oven off at home? In 2,000 words or less, tell me.
