The fateful day has arrived, Saturday Annual 2024 is AVAILABLE NOW! Last but not least we’re highlighting the incredibly talented Mikeyartbook. He was brought on to work on the hit series Clock Striker. Looking at his huge catalog of artwork on his social is awe-inspiring! He worked alongside original creators, Frederick L. Jones and Issaka Galadima, to prepare this short story for Annual. We had the privilege of chatting with Mikey about bringing his fresh take on Clock Striker to the pages of Annual. Here’s what he had to say:
How was your experience crafting content for this year’s edition of the Saturday AM Annual? Were there any moments that stood out to you?
“I’m so honoured to be able to illustrate Cast , a first black female lead in such a diverse manga company. There are many young kids with different ethnicities that are waiting to be inspired! Im Thai\asian who never seen myself in Hollywood film in the past and That never really bothers me. Until there is someone that represents me on there to know that it’s so freaking cool and I felt for the character in a whole different level!”
What message or emotion do you hope readers will take away from your contribution to the Annual?
“Be inspired, Be bold pick up your pen and start crafting!”
Can you share any behind-the-scenes moments or challenges you faced while developing your story?
“Cast (From Clock striker) is my favourite character, I just love drawing her. Every time there is her scene I get excited, She gives me the same feels as drawing character like Naruto. Always energetic and has good morals with a bit of humour and you couldn’t get better than a character with charm like that. One challenge I have is Ms.Clock is pretty hard to draw in contrast but I always believe when a character is hard to draw, it means that it has a good design!”
Are there particular artists or illustrators, whether from Saturday AM or elsewhere, that have influenced your work?
“Horikoshi Kohei….you can see it in my artwork. (thank you Sensei!)”
